I am sure you can find this a million different places by now, but I thought I would repost it here. At St. Columbkille, our lenten programs will focus on these three pillars with the first week of lent talking about fasting by Deacon Biver, the second week a healing mass with the homily on prayer and the fourth week a benefit lasagna dinner for the Parish Crisis Fund with a talk on almsgiving.

Pope’s Lenten Message
Thursday, February 5th, 2009Pope cautions tribunals against granting annulments too easily
Wednesday, February 4th, 2009
Granting marriage annulments too easily and without real cause plays into a modern form of pessimism that basically says human beings are not able to make lifelong commitments to loving another person, Pope Benedict XVI said.
“We run the risk of falling into an anthropological pessimism which, in the light of today’s cultural situation, considers it almost impossible to marry,” the pope said in a speech Jan. 29 to members of the Tribunal of the Roman Rota.
The tribunal mainly deals with appeals filed in marriage annulment cases.

Monday, January 26th, 2009Pope Benedict XVI has lifted the excommunication of the four bishops from the Society of St. Pius X (SSPX) ordained by Marcel Lefebvre in 1988 in a decision he hopes will lead to “real and final unity.”
Pope asks young people to use technology to evangelize
Monday, January 26th, 2009Hey! This is nice to see as I have been saying for a long time that it is time to do so. Check out SQPN for Catholic related media.
Pope Benedict XVI asked young Catholics to use their computers, Facebook accounts, blogs and Internet video posts to share with their peers the joy of faith in Christ.
“Be sure to announce the Gospel to your contemporaries with enthusiasm,” the pope told young people in his message for the 2009 celebration of World Communications Day.
Vatican reveals secrets of worst sins
Saturday, January 17th, 2009
The headline in many secular newspapers is probably great for readership but misses the mark when reporting. The Apostolic Penitentiary, or “tribunal of conscience”, has never provided details of the cases it scrutinises and the exact sins are ever made public as is the case for any sin divulged during confession. So the media again falls on its face by not reporting the reason for the 2 day conference: use the Sacrament of Reconciliation.
Pope Benedict’s New Year’s Message Condemns, Abortion, Population Control
Saturday, January 3rd, 2009The Vatican (LifeNews.com) – Pope Benedict XVI has a special message for the world with the start of the New Year and it focuses on condemning abortion and birth control. The pope urged efforts to end poverty across the globe but said those efforts must also be life-affirming for women and unborn children.
The leader of the Catholic Church said poverty is often regarded by abortion advocates as a consequence of demographic change
That’s the claim that there are too many people on the planet despite evidence that several areas of the world are experiencing underpopulation.
“For this reason, there are international campaigns afoot to reduce birth-rates, sometimes using methods that respect neither the dignity of the woman, nor the right of parents to choose responsibly how many children to have,” the pope said.
“Graver still, these methods often fail to respect even the right to life,” he added.
“The extermination of millions of unborn children, in the name of the fight against poverty, actually constitutes the destruction of the poorest of all human beings,” the pope said.
The pope pointed out that population growth has led to a result in poverty, saying that, in 1981, around 40% of the world’s population was below the threshold of absolute poverty and indicating that percentage has been reduced by half despite population growth in some of the worst areas.
“This goes to show that resources to solve the problem of poverty do exist, even in the face of an increasing population,” the pontiff said.
“Moreover, among the most developed nations, those with higher birth-rates enjoy better opportunities for development. In other words, population is proving to be an asset, not a factor that contributes to poverty,” Pope Benedict concluded.
